Science has come a long way in researching methods to improve the symptoms of autism, ADHD, and other neurological conditions. One of those methods is peptide therapy. For a basic understanding of peptides, peptide therapy and other possible uses, please reference Peptide Basics.

Specific Peptides and How They Help

There are seven particular peptides that may help with autism specifically, by can also improve symptoms of other neurological disorders such as ADHD and PANS. The peptides include KPV, CogniPep, TB4 Frag, Larazotide Acetate, Selank, Oxytocin, and DSIP.

  • KPV is an anti-inflammatory anti-microbial peptide. It also supports the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) alongside limiting psoriasis symptoms. KPV is effective against bacteria, fungi, and even viruses. All of this combined can decrease reliance on over the counter medications.
  • CogniPep supports cognitive clarity and focus, healthy brain function, and overall neurological and vascular wellbeing. It also boosts oxygen flow to the brain and protects neurons.
  • TB4-Frag improves tissue repair, regulates inflammation, and boosts mitochondrial function. In addition, TB4-Frag increases host defense to infection, antioxidants and glutathione, and reverses immunosuppression of chronic infection.
  • Larazotide Acetate (LA) tightens the gut junctions to prevent particles such as large food particles, proteins, bacteria, and chemical toxins from entering the bloodstream. Furthermore, LA decreases chronic inflammation and supports nutrient absorption which can improve the symptoms of IBD, Celiac Disease, and some autoimmune disorders.
  • Selank is a peptide in the form of a nasal spray that reduces anxiety and the body’s fight-or-flight response. It modulates GABA, dopamine, and serotonin as well as protects enkephalins and boosts BDNF for cognitive health. Selank can improve symptoms of ADHD/ADD, PMS or PMDD, and depression. Patients who use Selank may also see a reduction in pain.
  • Oxytocin is used to reduce social anxiety and may help patients feel more connected to others in social settings. It can also be administered via nasal spray and binds to oxytocin receptors in the brain. The result is enhanced social cognition and reduced stress responses and negative self-judgment during social situations.
  • DSIP enhances deep sleep, reduces nighttime waking, and improves sleep quality leading to the patient feeling recharged and less irritable. It normalizes brain waves, mitigates stress and anxiety, and modulates neurotransmitter systems.

Conditions That Benefit from Peptide Therapy

Peptides can be combined for greater benefits. KPV and LA for more effective treatment of food intolerances and GI function. CogniPep in the morning with DSIP at night is best for brain restoration. Selank and Oxytocin is the ideal pairing for less anxiety, especially surrounding social situations.

While the main point of this blog was to educate patients about peptides that may help neurological disorders, specifically autism, peptide therapy can be beneficial for many other conditions as well. Examples of more conditions, disorders, and general health concerns that can be improved with peptide therapy are:

  • Neurological Disorders
  • G.I. Tract Disorders
    • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
    • Crohn’s Disease
    • Ulcerative Colitis
    • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
    • Candidiasis
  • Autoimmune Disorders
  • Other
    • Allergies
    • Asthma
    • Metabolism and weight management
    • Mast Cell Activation Syndrome
