- Pack your cooler in a personal item (small backpack, tote bag) rather than your main carry-on if possible. Position the vial upright inside the cooler, surrounded by ice packs on all sides, with paper towels or bubble wrap filling any air gaps. Air pockets reduce thermal mass and accelerate temperature loss. A tightly packed cooler maintains stable temperature 2–3 times longer than a loosely packed one.
- If you must check a bag containing peptides (not recommended but sometimes unavoidable), use a hard-shell insulated container with a temperature data logger inside. The logger provides evidence of temperature excursions if the peptide arrives damaged, which matters for insurance claims or institutional accountability. Write 'Fragile. Temperature-Sensitive Research Material' on all exterior surfaces, though this does not guarantee careful handling.
